Simple Pleasures
|
Isn't it so often simple pleasures that are best? One for me is almost more of a luxury. A glass of sweet ice tea, a comfy spot and recipe books to browse through. Life is good. Homey Church cookbooks top my list. These folks sure know how to whip up great eats. It's fun to read handwritten notes jotted in the margins or find an aged newspaper clipping or paper that hold a recipe. What a treasure to find recipe books that tell why a recipe was chosen for the collection. They offer us a glimpse into their lives. Momma purchased such a cookbook...an old Presbyterian Church cookbook. When my dad was stationed at Little Creek Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia in the mid 60's. A gem of a recipe, among others in the little cookbook was for ginger snap cookies. Being a family favorite already, Momma baked up a batch and just like that a heirloom recipe was found. Alas, my repreive ends, I am rested and refreshed. I smile at the perk of being around so much tempting food and no calories. Yep...Life is Good!
